Putney is a thriving riverside town in the heart of south west London that manages to combine a central location close to the West End with a real neighbourhood feel.

Film, Theatre, Culture and Leisure

There are a wide variety of restaurants, cafes, coffee shops, bars and pubs, plus a cinema (www.odeon.co.uk), a library and a leisure centre (www.dcleisurecentres.co.uk).
There’s even a theatre, the Putney Arts Theatre, which is home to two theatre groups (www.putneyartstheatre.org.uk).

Shopping Shopping is good, with the Putney Exchange shopping centre, a regular French market, branches of Waitrose and Sainsburys, plus a range of chain stores and independent shops in the High Street and Upper and Lower Richmond Roads.

Open Spaces There are some beautiful open spaces nearby, including, of course, the Embankment along the river Thames, which is home to several rowing clubs. Putney Heath and Putney Common are also close by. Find out more about the history of the common and how it is run by visiting www.wpcc.org.uk.

Music The renowned music venue, the Half Moon Pub, is less than 5 minutes walk away down the Lower Richmond Road. See what's on by visiting www.halfmoon.co.uk.

Local Borough Putney is part of the Borough of Wandsworth. Visit www.wandsworth.gov.uk for more information about the services provided by Wandsworth Borough Council, including schools and the library.

Local Community Putney has its own community website, www.putneysw15.com, which has a range of information clubs, services, events and local issues. You can sign up to this and receive a weekly newsletter. Another site, www.myputney.co.uk has information on leisure and entertainment.

Local Paper The council website also has an extensive what’s on section. There are two local newspapers, the free Putney Guardian and the paid-for Wandsworth Borough News. Some of their content can be accessed at www.thisiswandsworth.co.uk
