Kenilworth Court was built during the first decade of the last century as rented family accommodation.  In a series of transactions between the mid-1950s and early 1970s, residents were able to acquire individual leases and eventually, as a body, secured the freehold of the overall property.

Since that time, Kenilworth Court has been run by the controlling company, ‘Kenilworth Court Co-ownership Housing Association Ltd’ (or KCCHA).  This company is wholly owned by leaseholders and no outside body has any financial holding of any nature.

KCCHA is registered under the Industrial & Provident Societies Act 1969.  This co-ownership arrangement means that we have complete control over all aspects of the Court’s management.  Under this act, we are expressly forbidden to make a profit under the Rules of the Association.

There is a real sense of history in Kenilworth Court, which has changed remarkably little since it was built. The court was part of a building boom at this time, providing good, affordable accommodation in purpose-built flats. It has a sister block just over the river. Before some of the garden was given over to car parking, the court had its own tennis courts

A number of well-known people have lived in Kenilworth Court over the years, including artist Cyril Power, novelist William Cooper, poet Gavin Ewart, Wimbledon finalist Jaroslav Drobny and playboy prince Caroll II of Romania.
